FAQ’s
What is a draughtsman?
- A draughtsman is responsible for transforming ideas into specific drawings used to guild the physical construction and fabrication of entities such as buildings, machines and roads etc. This can be done freehand, although it is now common to use computer-aided design (CAD) software
- A draftsman is proficient in all aspects of technical and material designs, dimensions, and procedures.
How do I become a draughtsman?
- One would think a draughting diploma or certificate would be a good start, but in the real world it boils down to experience. In our personal view, one years’ experience in a specific field using a specific drawing program goes a lot further than a draughting qualification.
- To become a draughtsman, you are required to have excellent mathematical and analytical skills, superior drawing abilities and great hand-eye coordination. You also need to be computer literate since most of your work will be done on a computer.
- We at Miner Construction recommend our three 4-month courses to kick start your career by gaining experience from the best to become the best.
How much does a draughtman earn?
- The below rates are subject to change and are market and time relate
Trainee (1-2 years) = R65p/h (R12 000 – R15 000)
Junior (2-5 years) = R100p/h (R18 000 – R25 000)
Draughtman (5-9 years) = R250p/h (R45 000 -R60 000)
Senior (10+years) = R550p/h (R100 000 – R120 000)
How can I find a job as a Draughtsman?
- Simply put, by gaining experience. It is a bit of a catch 22, how do you gain experience without having experience.
- At Miner Construction we simulate an office environment with a hands-on approach on current project specific deliverables which gives our students work experience rather than just a qualification.
- After completion of our courses:
- we strive to ensure that our students are introduced into the workplace directly to some of the local project houses;
- we also provide connections to our students to top recruiting agencies in this market; and
- following finalization of the courses offered by Miner Construction, students may be utilized as a freelance draughtsman at a fixed price projects.
This allows students to gain more valuable experience enhancing their careers.
